Located at the south end of the town of Colorado Springs, Fort Carson is a 138,000-acre military post that is recognized as one of the world’s premiere locations to lead, train, and prepare soldiers. There are no private residences on Fort Carson, only barracks and on-post housing. However, the Fort does have a very large commissary, large exchange, mall and four specialty shops. Recreation on the base includes bowling, an auto hobby club, an exercise gymnasium, tennis, swimming pools, fishing and horse stables. There is also an 18-hole golf course which utilizes GPS Systems on the golf carts and boasts a beautiful clubhouse. There are three elementary schools and one middle school on the post, run by the Fountain-Fort Carson School District. Additionally, the area has nearly 300 public, private, alternative and charter schools within driving distance.
