Fort Carson’s military family neighborhoods are safe, friendly and feature real estate market options for purchase of all shapes and sizes. Although Fort Carson is not an incorporated city, it is considered a part of El Paso County and is located in one of Colorado’s most exciting regions. The county features both mountainous terrain and open prairie lands, which makes it a year-round sports paradise that offers hunting, fishing, camping, mountain climbing, and golf to people of all ages.
El Paso County lies in east central Colorado and encompasses more than 2,160 square miles. While the western portion of El Paso County is extremely mountainous, the eastern part is prairie land where dairy cows and beef cattle are the main source of ranchers’ income. The altitude ranges from about 5,090 feet on the southern border of Black Squirrel Creek to 14,100 feet on the summit of Pikes Peak, near the western boundary. The county seat is located in Colorado Springs. This region is situated at the base of Pikes Peak and is famous for its natural physical beauty and its mild climate, supplying residents with 285 days of sunshine at low levels of humidity each year.
Colorado Springs runs along the northern edges of Fort Carson and is a popular place of residency for most of the military personnel stationed at the base. In addition to Fort Carson, Colorado Springs is home to several other military installations including the US Air Force Academy, Peterson and Schriever Air Force bases and the infamous Norad Facility, recognized as arguably the most secure base in the world. Due to the presence of the tens of thousands of military personnel and families living in this area, El Paso County as a whole is a very young and active community that boasts exhilarating outdoor amenities, a vibrant nightlife and first class sports and recreations facilities. The Colorado Springs World Arena, the Olympic Training Complex, the Fort Carson Athletic Fields and the El Pomar Youth Sports Complex are all located near or bordering on Fort Carson, making each of these recreation centers attractive gathering areas for residents.
Additionally, the city of Colorado Springs offers shopping from the spectacular to the sublime, as well as dining choices ranging from native creations to international cuisine. In addition to the many special events hosted by Fort Carson, the base’s surrounding towns and cities like Colorado Springs, Palmer Lake and Woodland Park play host to a litany of exciting, family-oriented events such as the Chocolate Bunny Walk, Arbor Day Celebration, Celebration Metaphysical Fair, Sports and Recreation Expo, Rocky Mountain Super Race, Hummingbird Festival, Falcon Festival, Springspree, and Donkey Derby Days to name a few. Combine these intimate community events with major attractions such as attending collegiate sporting competitions at the US Air Force Academy, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Colorado College, or viewing Broadway shows and international touring acts at venues such as the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and it is easy to see why this region features a rewarding lifestyle for the men and women serving our country and the many other civilians who call El Paso County their home.
